It’s the morning after another night of protests and continued police violence has rocked our country, but cast your mind way back to mid-May. That was when Sen. Cornyn thought he’d take a page from the playbook of his leader, Donald Trump, and tag a possible political opponent with a childish, racist nickname.
State Sen. Royce West, in the Democratic runoff to challenge Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in November, suggested late Thursday that the incumbent is employing dog-whistle language that suggests blacks are too lazy to hold public office. West, who is black, took issue with a Cornyn spokeswoman calling him “Restful Royce” in two recent media interviews. He called the description both inaccurate and offensive.
