RIP, Last Shreds of Cornyn’s Dignity
A little over two years into the Trump presidency, Senator John Cornyn had approximately 0.0002% left of his dignity as a U.S. Senator, sworn to represent the people of Texas and protect the U.S. Constitution.
Rest in peace, you last, microscopic shreds of decency. Time of death: 2:38PM CT, Thursday, February 21, 2019.
Thank you, President @realDonaldTrump, for your endorsement! Together we will make a safer, stronger Texas. https://t.co/1aXBTL1Coo

I asked US Sen John Cornyn if he asked for President Donald Trump’s endorsement today: “Well I did ask him for it and I appreciate his support.” pic.twitter.com/5srp5OWrep

The full damage that this President has done, is doing, and will do to our nation will be evaluated by history. Future generations will wonder, “How could that deranged, sexist, racist buffoon get away with all the things he got away with? Where were the checks? WHAT ABOUT THE BALANCES?!”
The answer, of course, will be the Republican-controlled House (though ended in 2018) and Senate, and how easily they fell into line, like willing pawns. A few tried to salvage their honor with words of concern, but went along anyway. Many simply stayed quiet, publicly, also going along.
And some, like Texas’ supposedly senior Senator, have jumped in with both fool feet. Such behavior might earn him his own picture or sidebar in those future history books, in the section on Trump’s biggest sycophants and most powerful enablers.
